Top 10 AI Trends for 2025
Dec 5, 2024
At the end of another crazy year, everyone is wondering: what will be the biggest AI trends for 2025?
Undoubtedly, 2025 will bring plenty more dramatic, headline-grabbing developments.
There’ll also be plenty of subtle shifts that creep in unnoticeably.
In this post, I’ll explore the biggest AI trends to watch in 2025, and share my predictions about how these changes will reshape our world.
AI trends 2025 at a glance
Here’s a rundown of what we can expect for 2025:
AI can converse with you naturally, just like a human, and undertake complex tasks requiring input from different specialized tools - all from a single prompt.
Humans take on a guiding role in orchestrating AI agents. Later, an AI super agent may be able to manage other AI agents.
AI adoption becomes the norm, and many will seamlessly integrate it into their workday.
Spotting AI-generated text, videos, images, and audio gets harder.
Bad actors use AI for nefarious purposes but it also becomes a vital defense against cyber attacks.
AI plays a role in the next big scientific or medical discovery.
Robotics will spark awe, curiosity, and unease.
There will be a great divide between countries that regulate AI and those that don’t.
Now, let’s dive into more detail about each trend!
AI Agents
One of the biggest AI trends in 2025 will be agents.
AI agents are next-level AI that can accomplish goals independently.
We’ve seen early glimpses: Computer Use by Claude, Open Interpreter 01.
Neither of these got very far, but soon, AI will be capable of directing itself to complete sequences of tasks to achieve a specific aim, all from a simple prompt.
Initially, humans will orchestrate the systems, but later on, AI “superagents” will coordinate and optimize other AI agents.
My money is on Open AI commercializing the use of agents in early 2025.
What does this mean?
It’s the generalists’ time to shine — As a generalist with just 20% of knowledge in a variety of areas, you can get AI to handle the other 80% of specialist work.
Humans take on a guiding role — We will play a vital role in coordinating AI tools and agents to complete advanced work.
Our work will become more eclectic — As AI tools can be specialists, we’ll be able to dabble in a wide variety of different work.
At AI Operator, we’ll always have the latest cutting-edge technology to train teams and build amazing automation systems powered by agents when the time comes.
AI handles the mundane
Terry Power, SEO Consultant at TerryPower.com, believes AI automations will be the biggest change in 2025.
“Initially, smaller companies will build larger businesses with automation, then large companies will begin seeking more automations, and finally, small business owners will start to scale through the automation of daily tasks.”
He explains that entrepreneurs who continue to do mundane tasks will inevitably suffer burnout, but “those who turn over the basics to AI will find their mojo returns as they can focus on their dreams.”
Advanced reasoning
Ignore the o1 haters!
Open AI started something exciting with its o1 reasoning model.
Reasoning is just another way to say chain of thought.
We used to instruct AI to do this using phrases like “step by step” in our prompts. Now, it will be included in the background, which is very handy.
Reasoning capabilities are what will make agents possible.
AI will have the ability to think, process, and make better decisions, and it will be able to coordinate various agents to achieve an outcome without needing step-by-step prompts.
This may take a little longer, so we might have to wait for our results.
I believe o1 is the start of an interesting family of models that will eventually integrate with the GPT models.
In the future, we won’t need to select models. AI will know what process to use for different requests, and things will start to happen automatically. Or “automagically!”
Security threats and defenses
Now for the bad news: in 2025, AI will be used in high-level scams and cyber attacks.
This could be anything from government data hacks to AI-generated voice scams.
Some will rush to blame AI for these attacks. However, I always say that AI doesn’t act alone; it’s the humans who control AI and use it for evil.
Ironically, AI will be essential to fight and defend against these attacks.
We’ll also need greater public awareness and up-to-date education about what scams are happening and how to protect ourselves.
As the founder of AI Operator, I truly believe that we must harness AI for the good of humanity and the earth.
Evil people will try to use it to their advantage, but AI is also key to saving Mother Earth and its inhabitants with our technology and knowledge.
The “Year of Voice”
Conversational AI is one of the AI trends I’m most excited about for 2025.
I’m already calling it the “Year of Voice” because I believe this is where we’ll see the most impact this year.
ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode is amazing, and it’s just the beginning.
More and more companies will release conversational AI chatbot tools to improve customer experiences, and interacting with AI through voice chat will become normalized.
Let’s face it - if you have a simple task to do, you’d probably prefer to go straight through to an AI rather than wait on hold for 40 minutes for a human.
AI Business predicted that 95% of online and telephone communications with businesses will be AI-assisted by 2025.
This year, you might have an entire conversation with an AI voice, possibly without even realizing it!
Voice chat is also incredibly helpful for productivity - you can get work done on a walk, in the car, and in other places where you can’t access your laptop or phone.
I predict advanced voice mode will become much smoother. Soon, you’ll be able to switch to voice mode and back mid-conversation and also use voice mode with all your favorite GPTs.
AI personal assistants for everyone!
Seamless collaboration
In 2025, AI will be baked into your everyday work.
Many tools you already use will release AI features.
More and more companies will promote AI integration, and employees will use AI copilots seamlessly throughout the day.
The stigma of using AI will evaporate, so there will be less secrecy about usage.
AI is still a buzzword, but this year, we might stop talking about it as much as it gets more normalized.
We don’t think about electricity until there’s a power cut. This year, AI will start to blend into the background of our work as people start relying more and more on AI to get their jobs done (cue chaos the second ChatGPT goes down!).
I also think prompting will become second nature. Essentially, prompt engineering is just learning to talk to the machines, but as they get smarter, they’ll find it easier to understand what we want.
“In 2025, AI will become deeply integrated into everyday tools and workflows, with personalization being a key driver,” says Georgi Todorov, founder of Create & Grow.
“AI will increasingly adapt to individual user behavior, offering customized insights and automating routine tasks across industries.”
Broader awareness and understanding
A societal shift is coming.
The AI market is set to grow by 26% in 2025 and 4 in 5 companies say AI is a top priority in their business strategy.
AI will enter the “early majority” phase of the trend cycle, where AI usage will become the norm, not the exception.
Expect more dinner table conversations about AI with your older relatives. Don’t be shocked when everyone from your hairdresser to your taxi driver and local restaurant owner optimizes their work and life with ChatGPT.
There will also be a push to ensure equal access to AI in deprived areas, similar to internet access in the past.
All this means you must train your team and adopt AI-first practices in your business.
Steady advances in audio and video
I don’t think 2025 will be the “Year of Video” (I’m saving that for my 2026 predictions).
We still have a way to go before AI can produce a convincing, high-quality video to rival traditional human production at scale.
However, we’ll continue to see improvements in AI-generated video, audio, and image. Sora will likely be made public in early 2025, allowing more people to experiment with video creation.
AI tools should get better at processing images and videos as prompts, and it’ll become less obvious when a piece of visual content is AI-generated.
How AI video will reshape marketing
Ryan Stone, Founder & Creative Director of Lambda Video Production, says the appeal of AI is its ability to speed up video production.
“Tools can now generate detailed storyboards, animations, and near-final assets in days, rather than weeks, making them ideal for brands needing rapid content creation.”
Hyper-personalization is another bonus:
“It enables thousands of tailored video variations that resonate with specific audience segments, boosting engagement and ROI.”
While Coca-Cola’s AI-generated ad showcased AI’s creative potential, Ryan emphasizes the need for human oversight.
“AI can't yet replace the nuance and emotional connection that human creatives bring, but it excels at amplifying ideas and refining processes.”
AI credited for a scientific discovery
Medical professionals already use AI, and around 2 in 5 (38%) use AI systems to aid diagnosis.
I predict that the next big scientific discovery will be made thanks to AI.
Just imagine the good publicity when a scientist or researcher credits AI for helping to develop a cure for a disease or a scientific advancement.
This will get everyone excited about the positive potential of AI implementation to solve health problems or make scientific breakthroughs that improve our lives.
AI-driven robotics
Robotics will generate a lot of attention in 2025. People will be both amazed and unsettled by seeing humanoid and non-humanoid robots completing various tasks.
The robots of the future will also be powered with AI’s more complex reasoning skills, allowing them to make autonomous decisions and complete ever more advanced sequences of tasks.
We’ll see exciting developments in AI-powered artificial limbs, self-driving taxis, avatars, and AI that use your computer as a human would. Robots will become more aware of the physical world, and we’ll be able to interact with them like other humans.
AI regulation and legislation
More countries will recognize the need to create regulations to promote responsible use of AI in 2025 and beyond.
The EU’s AI Act will come into force in February. It may take several months for companies to fully understand the implications and what they must do.
The European market might slow down, but policymakers would argue that getting regulation in place now protects us from scams and misuse.
While Europe embraces a controlled approach, the USA and China will go against the grain with a free-for-all, unrestricted mindset.
Sadly, I think this means China and the USA will pull ahead of the rest of the world regarding AI advancement. But without restrictions, there’ll be nothing to stop this technology from falling into the hands of evil humans.
All I’ll say is this:
America still hasn’t learned its lesson about guns - so why should AI be any different?
Will regulation prevent irresponsible AI use?
“We will see more strict regulations and compliance checks for many companies,” says Serhii Uspenskiy, CEO of Springs.
“Standards like the EU AI Act or ISO 42001 are expected to be more useful in 2025 and they might help to avoid some damages caused to people and businesses previously.”
Serhii explains that we should expect to see AI used in military and defense due to the state of the world today.
“Integrating AI into drones' software has already become a trend, and it will grow in 2025.”
